Description

Shark Attack is a single-player action game released for personal computers and early home consoles. The player controls a great white shark navigating a series of increasingly populated coastal waters. The primary objective is to consume a sufficient quantity of human swimmers, boaters, and marine life to progress through levels. The game employs a top-down perspective with a scrolling ocean environment. Each level presents a target number of victims to devour within a time limit. Obstacles include speedboats, jet skis, and naval patrols that can injure or kill the shark. The game concludes when the player fails to meet the consumption quota or sustains fatal damage.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are based on a two-dimensional movement plane. The player controls the shark’s direction and speed using a directional pad or keyboard arrow keys. A single action button initiates a bite attack when the shark is in proximity to a target. The shark possesses a health bar that depletes upon collision with hostile watercraft or explosive barrels. Health can be partially restored by consuming specific fish or medical crates found on the ocean floor. Tactical techniques include using the shark’s speed to outmaneuver boats from behind, as frontal collisions cause greater damage. The player should prioritize isolated swimmers before engaging groups, as clustered targets attract faster patrol response. A temporary speed boost is available by collecting power-up icons, which is best used to escape pursuing naval vessels. The player must also manage the shark’s oxygen meter when diving deep; surfacing periodically prevents drowning. Effective play requires memorizing spawn points for health items and timing attacks to avoid overlapping patrol routes.
