Description

Bump.io is a multiplayer online browser game developed by Lior Alterman and released in 2017. The game belongs to the .io genre, characterized by simple graphics, real-time player interaction, and a competitive arena environment. Players control a circular avatar on a flat, bounded map. The primary objective is to eliminate other players by bumping into them, causing them to fall off the map’s edge. The game supports up to 20 players per session. Avatars are distinguished by randomly assigned colors and names. The game ends when only one player remains, who is declared the winner. No persistent progression or unlockable content exists; each match is independent.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are based on momentum and collision. Each player’s avatar moves continuously in the direction of the mouse cursor relative to the screen center. The avatar accelerates when the cursor is moved farther from the avatar, and decelerates when the cursor is brought closer. Contact between two avatars results in a collision. The player with higher speed or a more direct angle of impact pushes the opponent backward. If an opponent is pushed beyond the map’s circular boundary, they are eliminated. Operation controls are exclusively mouse-based. Left-clicking is not required; movement is entirely controlled by cursor position. No keyboard inputs are used. Tactical techniques include approaching opponents at a tangent to maximize knockback, using the map’s curvature to trap opponents near the edge, and feinting by rapidly changing cursor direction to cause an opponent to overshoot. Maintaining high speed while avoiding direct head-on collisions is essential, as equal-speed frontal impacts often result in both players being repelled equally.
