Description

Penguin.io is a multiplayer online browser game developed by a small independent studio. Players control a penguin character on a circular ice floe arena. The primary objective is to push opposing penguins off the edge of the ice into the surrounding water. The last penguin remaining on the ice wins the round. The game features a top-down perspective and simple, colorful graphics. Matches typically last between one and three minutes, supporting up to ten players per session. No persistent progression system exists; each match is independent.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are based on collision and momentum. Each penguin has a circular collision hitbox. Contact between two penguins results in a push force applied to both characters. The magnitude of the push depends on the relative speed and angle of impact. A penguin sliding toward the edge can be redirected or accelerated outward by a well-timed collision from another player.

Operation controls are limited to the keyboard. The W, A, S, and D keys control movement in four cardinal directions. The spacebar performs a short dash forward, consuming a stamina meter that regenerates over three seconds. The mouse is not used. No alternative control schemes are available.

Tactical techniques include the "edge trap," where a player positions themselves between an opponent and the ice edge, then dashes into the opponent to launch them off. The "circle strafe" involves moving perpendicular to an approaching opponent to deflect their momentum. The "feint dash" uses a quick spacebar press to change direction abruptly, causing an aggressive opponent to overshoot and slide off. Staying near the center of the arena reduces vulnerability to being pushed off.
