Description

Sumo.io is a multiplayer online browser game developed by a small independent studio. The game simulates sumo wrestling matches in a circular arena, where players control circular avatars with the objective of pushing opponents out of the ring. Each match supports up to 12 concurrent players. The arena is a flat, bounded disc with a visible edge. Players spawn at random positions. The game uses a physics engine that calculates mass, momentum, and friction. Avatars are color-coded and display a player-chosen name. Rounds last until one player remains inside the ring. The game is free-to-play with optional cosmetic upgrades.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics center on collision-based displacement. Each avatar has a mass value that increases by absorbing small, randomly spawning power pellets within the ring. Larger mass increases pushing force but reduces acceleration. The primary control scheme uses the mouse: moving the cursor in a direction causes the avatar to accelerate toward that point. No keyboard keys are required for movement. A secondary control, the spacebar, triggers a temporary speed boost that consumes a portion of the avatar’s mass. Tactical techniques include: flanking opponents near the edge to exploit their momentum; using the speed boost to dodge incoming charges; and positioning between an opponent and the ring boundary to block escape. Players should avoid the center of the ring when outnumbered, as multiple opponents can coordinate pushes. The most effective strategy involves maintaining a medium mass to balance speed and force, then targeting larger, slower opponents by repeatedly ramming them from the side.
