Description

Toy Factory is a single-player simulation game released in 1998 for personal computers. The player assumes the role of a factory manager responsible for producing and distributing a variety of toys. The objective is to maximize profit over a series of timed levels by optimizing production lines, managing inventory, and fulfilling customer orders. The game features a top-down isometric view of the factory floor. Success depends on balancing resource allocation, machine placement, and worker efficiency.

Instructions

Gameplay is divided into two phases: planning and execution. During planning, the player places machines (e.g., assembly stations, painting booths, packaging units) on a grid. Each machine requires a specific input and produces a specific output. Conveyor belts must be placed to connect machines and move items. Workers are assigned to operate machines or transport goods. Controls use a mouse for selection and placement. Left-click selects an object; right-click opens a context menu for settings. The keyboard shortcut 'P' pauses the game for planning. During execution, the factory runs automatically. The player monitors supply levels and adjusts machine speeds via sliders in the machine properties window. Tactical techniques include grouping similar machines to reduce travel time, using buffer zones with storage bins to prevent bottlenecks, and prioritizing high-margin toys when order deadlines are tight. Repairing broken machines immediately is critical, as downtime reduces profit. The game ends when the player fails to meet a mandatory order deadline or goes bankrupt.
