Description

The Lost Labyrinth is a single-player, grid-based puzzle-adventure game developed by Arcanum Studios and released in 2019. The player controls an unnamed explorer trapped within a procedurally generated subterranean maze. The primary objective is to locate and activate three ancient obelisks hidden within the labyrinth, which then unlocks the central exit portal. The game features a top-down perspective with a minimalist visual style, using distinct color-coded tiles to indicate hazards, keys, and doors. Environmental storytelling is conveyed through scattered journal fragments and wall carvings. The labyrinth resets upon each new game, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical. The game contains no combat; challenges are purely navigational and logic-based.

Instructions

Gameplay operates on a turn-based system. The player moves one tile per input. Controls are as follows: arrow keys or WASD for directional movement. The spacebar performs an action, such as pushing a movable block or reading a journal fragment. The 'R' key resets the current floor to its initial state, reverting all moved objects and unlocked doors. The 'M' key toggles a mini-map, which reveals only explored tiles. Tactical techniques include memorizing the pattern of pressure plates, as stepping on them in the correct sequence opens adjacent gates. Players must manage a limited inventory of torches, which illuminate a three-tile radius; darkness conceals traps and false walls. A key technique is the "edge-walk," where moving along the labyrinth's outer walls reduces the chance of encountering dead-end loops. Solving obelisk puzzles requires matching glyph sequences found on journal fragments to corresponding tiles on the floor. The game saves automatically only upon activating an obelisk.
