Mr. Dude: King of the Hill

Mr. Dude: King of the Hill is a single-player and local multiplayer platform fighting game released in 2023 by independent developer DudeSoft. The game features a cast of blocky, minimalist characters competing to control a single elevated zone, referred to as the "Hill," on a scrolling 2D stage. The objective is to maintain exclusive occupancy of the Hill for a cumulative total of 60 seconds. The game supports up to four players locally. Visuals are low-resolution pixel art with a limited color palette. The soundtrack consists of a single looping chiptune track.

Gameplay is divided into rounds. A round ends when a player reaches 60 seconds of total Hill control. Control is granted to the player whose character is physically within the Hill's boundaries and is not being knocked back or stunned. The Hill is a designated rectangular area that shifts position periodically. Each player controls a character with a single attack: a short-range punch. The punch can be performed on the ground or in the air. A successful hit deals knockback, pushing the opponent away. If an opponent is knocked off the stage boundary, they respawn after two seconds on a fixed platform. Controls: D-pad or left analog stick for movement (left, right, jump). A single action button (A on controller, Space on keyboard) executes the punch. Holding the jump button performs a higher jump. Tactical techniques include "edge guarding," where a player stands near the stage edge to punch opponents attempting to return; "spacing," maintaining maximum punch range to avoid counterattacks; and "hill denial," where a player stands just outside the Hill to punch any opponent attempting to enter, without accruing control time themselves.
