Description

HydraSword is a single-player action role-playing game developed by Ironclad Forge Studios and released in 2023 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in the fractured kingdom of Aetheris, where a cursed blade known as the HydraSword has split into seven elemental shards. The player controls a nameless exile who must recover these shards to seal a primordial serpent. The game features a non-linear overworld with interconnected biomes, each governed by a distinct elemental theme. Combat emphasizes timing and resource management, with no traditional leveling system; instead, the player’s power scales directly with the number of shards collected. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling and sparse dialogue, with multiple endings determined by the order of shard acquisition.

Instructions

Gameplay is divided into exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving. The player navigates a 3D third-person perspective world. Operation controls on standard controllers use the left analog stick for movement, the right analog stick for camera control, and the A button for jump. The right trigger performs a standard attack, while the left trigger executes a block or parry. The Y button cycles through equipped elemental shards, and the B button activates the shard’s special ability, consuming stamina. The X button interacts with objects or initiates dialogue. Tactical techniques include the “Shard Weave,” where the player alternates between two elemental shards mid-combo to exploit enemy weaknesses. The “Parry Riposte” requires pressing the left trigger exactly 0.3 seconds before an enemy strike, stunning the foe and allowing a critical hit. For traversal, the player can perform a “Wall Dash” by pressing jump while adjacent to a wall, followed by a directional input. Stamina management is critical; sprinting and special attacks drain stamina, which regenerates slowly when idle. Enemy patterns are telegraphed by visual cues, such as a red glow for unblockable attacks. The game includes no difficulty settings, but enemy aggression scales with the number of shards held.
