Description
Demon Killer is a 1993 side-scrolling action game developed by Nihon Bussan for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The player controls a lone warrior tasked with exterminating demonic entities that have overrun a medieval kingdom. The game features eight levels, each concluding with a boss encounter. The protagonist wields a primary melee weapon, a sword, and can collect secondary sub-weapons such as throwing knives, axes, and holy water. Health is represented by a life bar, and continues are limited. The game is noted for its high difficulty, requiring precise timing and pattern recognition.
Instructions
Gameplay mechanics are based on linear progression through side-scrolling stages. The player moves left or right using the D-pad. The A button performs a jump. The B button executes a sword swing; holding the button charges the sword for a more powerful attack. The Y button uses the currently equipped sub-weapon, which consumes ammunition. The X button cycles through collected sub-weapons. The L and R buttons have no function. Tactical techniques include learning enemy spawn patterns to avoid damage, using sub-weapons against flying or distant foes, and exploiting invincibility frames during the jump animation. Boss fights require memorizing attack cycles and striking during recovery windows. The player can also perform a downward thrust by pressing down and B while airborne, which can destroy certain obstacles and enemies.
