Description

Block Tree is a single-player puzzle-strategy video game developed by Noda Interactive and released in 2023. The game presents a three-dimensional grid-based environment populated by a central tree-like structure composed of colored blocks. The objective is to clear all blocks from the tree by matching them in groups of three or more of the same color. Blocks are arranged in a branching pattern, and the player must consider both the visible surface and the hidden blocks beneath. The game features a scoring system based on chain reactions and the number of blocks cleared in a single move. A timer is not present, allowing for unlimited planning. The game ends when no further moves are possible or when the tree is fully cleared. The visual design is minimalist, with a neutral background and a focus on the block structure.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are based on selecting and removing contiguous groups of identical colored blocks. A group must consist of at least three blocks that are directly adjacent horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on the tree’s surface. When a group is removed, blocks above the removed area fall downward to fill gaps, and new blocks may be revealed from the tree’s interior. Chain reactions occur when falling blocks create new matching groups, which are automatically cleared and add to the score multiplier. The game provides a preview of the next block color to be added to the tree after each move, which the player can influence by rotating the view.

Operation controls are limited to mouse or touch input. Left-clicking or tapping on a block selects it. The player then clicks or taps on an adjacent block of the same color to define the group. A highlighted outline confirms the selected group. Right-clicking or tapping outside the tree deselects. The camera can be rotated by clicking and dragging on the background or using the scroll wheel. Zoom is controlled by the scroll wheel or pinch gestures on touch devices. No keyboard shortcuts are used.

Tactical techniques focus on planning for chain reactions. Clearing blocks from the lower sections of the tree is prioritized to cause maximum falling movement. The player should avoid isolating single blocks of a color, as they become unmovable. Rotating the camera frequently is essential to identify hidden matching opportunities on the tree’s rear side. Using the block preview, the player can decide to clear a group that will cause a specific color to fall into a position where it forms a new match. The most effective strategy involves creating cascading clears that remove large sections in a single turn, as this yields the highest score multiplier.
