Description

Animal Boxing is a 2009 sports simulation video game developed by Gammick Entertainment for the Nintendo DS. The game features anthropomorphic animals competing in boxing matches across multiple weight classes. Players select from a roster of twelve characters, including a kangaroo, panda, and gorilla, each with unique attributes such as speed, power, and stamina. The game uses a cartoon art style and includes a single-player career mode, exhibition matches, and a multiplayer mode via local wireless. The objective is to deplete the opponent’s health bar by landing punches while avoiding damage.

Instructions

Gameplay operates on a turn-based strategy system rather than real-time action. Each round consists of a series of turns where the player selects an action from a menu. Controls are entirely stylus-based: the player taps icons on the lower touch screen to choose punches (jab, hook, uppercut), blocks, dodges, or special moves. Timing is critical; after selecting an action, a mini-game appears requiring precise stylus taps or directional swipes to execute the move effectively. For example, a hook requires a horizontal swipe, while an uppercut demands a vertical swipe. Blocking involves tapping a shield icon, and dodging requires tapping left or right arrows. Stamina management is essential, as each action consumes energy; low stamina reduces punch power and speed. Tactical techniques include baiting opponents into attacking then countering with a dodge and follow-up punch, using heavy punches to break guards, and conserving stamina for late-round combos. The game also includes a “rage” mechanic, activated by filling a meter through successful hits, allowing a temporary damage boost.
